Vatnajokull Ice Cap is the largest glacier in Europe. It covers around 9% of the island an area ten times larger then  New York. In volume it's even bigger 3.100 km3, if all that ice would be spread evenly over Great Britain it would be covered by approximately 15 meters of ice. ..Every year researches traverse the ice cap several time to monitor snow accumulation or melting. In June each year they are assisted by members of the Icelandic Glaciological Society. Their finding is that the ice cap has been losing mass for most of the twentieth century and since 1995 the glacier's volume has decreased faster then ever...The members of IGS are well equiped.
